Abstract

This scoping review examines literature published between 2000 and 2024 on the application of artificial intelligence in health insurance, searching PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. AI presents numerous opportunities in health insurance, including agenda setting, financial management, fraud detection, monitoring, diagnostics, risk management and value creation, alongside ethical challenges that must be addressed for effective implementation. Policies should prioritise the protection of personal health data, address ethical concerns, and ensure robust data privacy and security.

In short

A review of where artificial intelligence is actually being used in health insurance — from fraud detection to risk selection — and the data-protection and ethical constraints that shape what can be deployed.
