Abstract

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a crucial tool for evaluating health technologies and providing evidence-based guidance for their adoption. This study explores the opportunities and challenges of using artificial intelligence in HTA, with a specific focus on economic dimensions, following Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review framework over PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. AI enhances HTA outcomes by driving methodological advancement, improving utility and enabling comprehensive assessment through robust data systems; ethical considerations such as bias, transparency and accountability require deliberate planning and policymaking for responsible integration.

In short

A scoping review of how artificial intelligence is used in health technology assessment, and what it costs to use it responsibly — with the economic dimension of HTA as the focus.
